Both the regional Aloha and Hawaiian Airlines currently operate at Honolulu Airport and are currently the two-biggest airlines in the whole of Hawaii. The airport encompasses some 2,200 acres / 890 hectares of land and a similarly sized expanse of adjoining water, with the western side of the complex being dedicated to inter-island airlines and extensive cargo facilities.

Pubic bus services run to downtown Honolulu from Honolulu International Airport, including the licensed Airport Waikiki Express shuttle service and TheBus, which serve the various established Waikiki hotels. There are also several private shuttle companies, hotel courtesy shuttles, taxis and luxury limos that serve all points in Honolulu and Waikiki, including Ala Moana, Kahala and Kaimuki. Honolulu International Airport (HNL) Information: History and Facilities
In 1927, Honolulu Airport was opened to the world and at that stage, known as the John Rodgers Airport, named after a prominent local naval officer. In the early 1940s, the airport was extended using reclaimed land from the Mamala Bay, allowing much-needed extra space.
In 1947, John Rogers was rebranded and became the Honolulu International Airport (HNL), being used by many transpacific flights. Just three years later it had reached America's top-three busiest airports and was soon used by Qantas airlines, en-route from Australia. In 1965, a new terminal was opened and several large concourse areas were added in subsequent years, including the Diamond Head and EWA Concourses.
The invention of long-range planes has affected the traffic at Honolulu Airport and although the number of international flights has decreased, domestic flights have grown considerably. Ambitious modernization plans have begun to transport HNL into a true airport of the future. Costing over $2 billion, these renovations are aimed to be completed by 2020.
The Main Overseas Terminal at Honolulu Airport is where the majority of the facilities are to be found. However, there are cash machines opened by the Bank of Hawaii and First Hawaiian, and a bureau de change, as well as a post office, lost property service and medical facilities in the Main Terminal. In addition, there is a 24-hour medical clinic, shopping center and restaurants, including the Noodle Shop, the central Garden View Food Court, and a number of cocktail bars and snack machines.
Business services are located in the Main Overseas Terminal at the Business Center, which comes complete with telephones, fax machines and Internet access, as well as photocopying, stationery and postal facilities. Honolulu Airport's Garden Conference Center features a number of meeting rooms, while the Inter-Island Terminal also offers some business facilities, along with the airline lounges, such as the Alii Club, the Dynasty Lounge and the Presidents Club.
